Amsterdam Anne Frank House

Planning a trip to Amsterdam? The capital city of the Netherlands might be known for its Red Light District and coffee shops, but that’s not all there is to it… The city of Amsterdam has a fascinating history and offers many great museums – make sure to plan a few museum visits during your trip! Don’t miss the famous Anne Frank house, one of Amsterdam’s most famous museums. Here’s some tips and info to help you plan your visit to the museum:

Located on the scenic Prinsengracht canal in the historical city center of Amsterdam, this museum is dedicated to Anne Frank and her family who hid from the Nazis for more than 2 years before they were betrayed and captured in 1944. The original Anne Frank diary is on display among other historical documents and photographs.

The opening hours from April to October are from 09:00 until 21:00. All Saturdays during this period, and in July and August every day, it even stays open until 22:00. November to March, you can visit the Anne Frank house from 09:00 – 19:00 and last admittance is half an hour before closing. Admission is 9 Euro for adults, 4.50 Euro for ages 10-17 , and under 9’s get in for free. No photographs or filming is allowed there and yes that includes using your smartphone…

Special experience Anne Frank House in Amsterdam

Lines with waiting visitors outside the Anne Frank museum can get very long so it’s best to book a ticket in advance. There’s only a certain amount of people that can enter the house at the same time, and the amount of tickets that you can buy per time slot is limited. The tour itself takes about an hour, so you’ll have plenty of time left for other Amsterdam attractions. And because you are already in the city center, most of them will be in walking distance!

The best way to get around Amsterdam is by foot as everything is fairly close to each other plus Holland is a very flat country, which makes it easy for cyclists as well. Actually the main means of transportation is the bicycle and you need to be careful as they are quite fast and quieter than cars – accidents are not rare in Amsterdam. You can get to the Anne Frank House by tram, by foot, by boat or by car. Parking is scarce and is not recommended. The best way would be to take a tram or walk from Central Station.
