New York Central Park
A visit to New York City is not complete without at least a stroll through the Central Park. We’ve created a Central Park guide for you to help you plan your visit and explore the best attractions this famous park has to offer you.
Located in the middle of Manhattan, this sprawling park receives approximately thirty-five million visitors annually and it is the most visited urban park in the United States. From guided tours and sports to sightseeing or just plain relaxing, Central Park is New York’s backyard.
The Essential Central Park Guide for Tourists
There are plenty of things to do in New York’s Central Park. Check out the extensive walking trails, bridle paths, two ice-skating rinks (one of which is a swimming pool in July and August), and various ponds and lakes. Row boats can be rented for a romantic rendezvous on the water.
Getting around Central Park is great exercise on foot but if you want to relax a bit, hire one of the bike taxis at Columbus Circle to take you on a guided tour. Horse drawn carriages are also available for hire in the park.
The Central Park area is also great for museums. Across the street on Central Park West is the American Museum of Natural History – one of the most popular NYC attractions. Be sure not to miss the museum’s authentic T-Rex skeleton. On the other side of the park sits the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Over 2 million works of art from all periods and cultures are part of the museum’s extensive permanent collection. Entry to the museum is a voluntary donation.
Central Park is also home to the Central Park Zoo and Tisch Children’s Zoo. Here, just a few yards from 5th Ave. you’ll find over 130 different species ranging from giant polar bears to the tiny leaf cutter ants.
