New York Chinatown

New York offers endless possibilities and attractions to visit during your next vacation however visiting Chinatown is a must! There’s lots of fun things to do in Chinatown, here just a few suggestions…

Chinatown is a huge neighborhood, located in Lower Manhattan, bordered with the famous other two ethnic neighborhoods in Manhattan, Little Italy and Soho. It is home to a big number of Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian and many other eastern immigrants. Many of the finest NY attractions can be found in Chinatown.

Things to do in Chinatown New York

Start your tour on foot from the Mulberry and Canal Street where you can find a big fresh fish market, along the sides of the street. Chinatown is full with hundreds of restaurants, so make sure you come here hungry so you can benefit from the many culinary options you’ll have here. Try the many delicious tastes of eastern dishes from all around the area. If you get lost between the many restaurants, you can always get the help of the locals, to decide where the best place to eat is!

Prepare yourself for some shopping here too! Try the Mott Street where you can find a huge number of stores. The street is located between Canal and Chatham Square, you can find some extraordinary objects if you spend some time in the shops, for example martial arts equipment, or Asian designed jewelry and cloths.

Experience the many historical and architectural buildings in the area, for example the Chatham Square, located in a central area of the neighborhood, where a memorial statue of Lieutenant Benjamin Ralph Kimlau is standing, along with a Lin Zexu statue. You can also visit the old catholic Church of the Transfiguration on 25 Mott Street, still standing since 1801 designed in a Georgian style. It is one of four major churches in Manhattan, and considered to be a New York attraction since 1966, so make sure to pay a visit.

As you can see, this area is packed with attractions! Check out our Chinatown video guide to learn more about attractions nearby, such as the Little Italy neighborhood which is full of Italian restaurants and shops, and maybe if you have time visit trendy Soho, and meet some of the locals in the busy cafes and restaurants.
